There is nothing that irritates me more than these new 'millennial' words/phrases. Every time that I think I have grasped the concept of one, another more inherently annoying phrase appears. You know the type...the ones that makes your heart sink and worry about future generations. My sympathy goes to those that have to encounter and try to decode this new 'language' on a regular basis.
Here is the low-down to help decipher this new millennial language:
Bae - Before Anyone Else - He's my 'bae'
Bare - A lot of or Very - The woman had 'bare' cats or It's 'bare' cold out here
Yas / Yaaaass - A very excited yes - 'Yaaaass' Dave, you're in there with that girl!
Shade - When someone calls another person out - Mrs Doe threw 'shade' at Mrs Thomas
Bey - Short for Beyonce - Queen 'Bey'
Slay - A word used to describe a person who is looking or doing something that is amazing. It generally means that the person is at the top of their game - 'Slay' girl
Basic - Defines girls who possess no real character traits and has stereotypical likes - That girl is 'basic'
Basic B***h - Someone who is basic has zero personality - Mrs Doe is a 'basic b***h'!
Bye, Felicia - It's used to dismiss or disrespect someone - I bumped into Mrs Doe in the shop and she tried to talk to me and I was just like 'bye, Felicia!'
AF - Stands for As F**k - I’m hungry 'AF'!
#MCM / WCW - Man Crush Monday / Woman Crush Wednesday - My '#MCM' is Channing Tatum!
Doe - Used as a replacement for the word 'though' - That girl 'doe'!
Fleek - Something that is looking perfect - My eyebrows are on 'fleek' today!
Squad - Replaced words such as crews, group, gang, it's the name for your group of friends - It's me and my 'squad' out tonight!
Squad goals - This describes who you want your group to be - Taylor Swifts group are 'squad goals'!
... is life - It describes something that means a lot - Chocolate is 'life'!
Feels - Similar to the phrase 'I can't even', describes intense emotions - It's giving me the 'feels'
YOLO - An abbreviation of 'You Only Live Once' - Let's go! 'YOLO'!
On Point - If something has been done well or is perfect - Your outfit today is 'on point'
It really does make my heart sink and question my faith in humanity when these phrases are used. Maybe I'm just not as young as I think I am anymore!
