So the countdown is well and truly on. In a little under two weeks my Mum and I will be off to New York and it couldn't have come at a better time. It will by my fourth time and my mum's 8th or 9th time to the Big Apple...It's safe to say that we are addicted! We will be over in New York for Thanks Giving as well as Black Friday - which is an experience in itself! Going out shopping on Black Friday is definitely not for the faint hearted, you may be able to nab yourself a good deal on something however you have to battle a horrendous amount of people in order to get it.
Some people that I have spoken to don't get the 'hype' surrounding New York however I fell in love with it the first minute I saw the skyscrapers and yellow cabs. From Central Park (although a man made park it is still absolutely stunning and possibly one of my favourite locations in New York!) to the tourist attractions; one of the most memorable being, natually, the 9/11 memorial which despite coming from an absolute tragedy is incredibly stunning and so peaceful. Something I will never forget was the first year we visited New York, we ran out of time so didn't get to see the memorial fountains (as you had to book back then) so we just visited the first responding Fire Station. Whilst looking at the large bronze plaque along the side of the station there was an elderly gentleman in a fireman's uniform polishing it and reciting the events minute by minute. I found myself getting choked up listening to him, the events on that day had obviously extremely affected him. I found the museum strangly gripping looking at all of the artifacts and how some of the personal items were in such pristine condition considering the harrowing events. There was so much outrage from the victims families surrounding the museum itself and after walking through a certain section of the museum we could completely understand where this anger and outrage came from. We both felt very uneasy walking through a section purely dedicated to the terrorists themselves which we felt was disrespectful.
It doesn't matter how many times you visit New York there will always be new things to see and to do. This time we are hoping to finish of some of the sightseeing that we were unable to do in previous years not to mention do some serious christmas shopping.
It truly is an enchanting city that holds so many magical memories for me.
